It's the biggest game that these young men have ever played in... and it's only a stepping stone. One game away from the BIG game and after two great games, we will find out who is playing for a National Championship tonight!
#3 Minnesota Duluth has jumped out to an early 2-0 over #1 Ohio State and it was lighting fast for the Bulldogs. Playing behind a "home crowd" in St. Paul, the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth needed 1:53 of game time to take a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Louie Roehl was aggressive on the shift playing deep in the Buckeyes zone and it paid off with a big goal. Just 1:11 later, the Bulldogs struck again as Minnesota native Jared Thomas beat Ohio State's Sean Romeo five hole with a perfect shimmy shake to a backhander.
There's still plenty of time for the lower seed Buckeyes but they need a strong 2nd period. Ohio State needs to tie this game up or it will become very difficult against a well represented Minnesota Duluth team that is used to being on this stage. The Bulldogs are playing in their second consecutive Frozen Four, making it the 6th in school history whereas Ohio State is playing in their first Frozen Four game since 1998, which was the first time in school history they ever reached the coveted quatro plateau.
This is just the first of two great games tonight! In other words, we got plenty of chowder to go around! Check back to refresh your bowl as I serve up tasty updates all night long.. And yes, the soup is always hot and fresh.
Enjoy!
