Torey Krug Re-Injures Ankle

In game 4 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against Tampa Bay, Torey Krug went skate first into the end boards and consequently broke his left ankle.

He made his return on Saturday night in the Bruins preseason finale against the Philadelphia Flyers. Unfortunately he had to leave the game in the first period and as it turns out he injured that same left ankle. Reports are out from the Bruins Media day at TD Garden, and it appears that he will be re-evaluated in three weeks. Let’s hope this is not something too serious and that the Bruins just want to be cautious with him.

It’s obviously never good when a guy comes off a broken bone and immediately re-injures himself when he returns, but there is no need to panic B’s fans. He’s only missing the beginning part of the season for now, and better now than later in the season. The Bruins will likely slide Matt Grzelcyk into Krug’s spot to start the season. Grzelcyk is coming off a season that was better than people expected. He had 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points including a +21. He also averaged 16:44 of ice time per game. He was thrown into the mix last year right away and I expect him to pick up where he left off last season.

Everyone take a deep breath. The B’s will do just fine in the absence of Krug and will happily await his return.
