2019 Mets Preview

The Mets open their 2019 season on Thursday and with the moves they made this offseason they are expected to contend for NL East in 2019.

Assuming every one stays healthy the Mets should have one of the best rotations in baseball they return the 2018 CY Young award winner Jacob Degrom who just signed a 5 year 137.5 Million Dollar extension. The key for the rest of the rotation is to stay healthy especially with Noah Syndergaard who only started 7 games in 2017 but pitched to a 2.97 ERA and in 25 games in 2018 he had a recored of 13-4 with an ERA of 3.03. Zack Wheeler also had a bounce back year in 2018 in 29 starts he had a recored of 12-7 with an ERA of 3.31 .

The Mets needed to address their bullpen this offseason after having one of the worst bullpen ERA's in 2018 ranking 28th in all of baseball. They addressed it by bringing back former closer Jeurys Familia to be the set up man and then acquiring closer Edwin Diaz from the Mariners who had 57 saves to lead all of baseball last year.

It was a very rough year in 2018 for the mets offense they finished 23rd in runs scored. They did make moves this offseason to improve it trading for Robinson Cano and signing Wilson Ramos and Jed Lowrie.

With the additions the Mets made to their line up and bullpen the Mets should be a contender to win the NL East in 2019.
