The scoring was kicked off as Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak connected once again in this young season. Marchand got the puck on the boards below the goal and was able to find Pasta in front of the net for the easy finish.
With less than five minutes to go in the first period, Zdeno Chara would get his first goal of the season as he fired home a slap shot from the blue line that deflected off the Av’s Gabriel Landeskog.
Late in the first period, the Avalanche would get on the board during a power play opportunity to cut the lead in half. As the second period got underway, it appeared Karson Kuhlman scored his first of the season to get the lead back to two, but after a review the refs deemed that there was goalie interference on the play and the goal was waved off. Halfway through the period, Colorado would tie the game after Marchand gave the puck away in the defensive zone, gifting the Avalanche the goal.
The Bruins would start the third period on the power play and after a beautiful sequence of over 50 seconds of zone time, Pastrnak would find Jake DeBrusk for the goal to take the lead. After another review, it was once again waved off, this time for offsides. Later in the period, the Avalanche would take the lead after Andre Burakovsky beat Jaroslav Halak on the glove side. With 1:40 to go the Bruins would empty the net for the extra attacker but Colorado would put one in the empty net to seal the game, final score 4-2 Colorado.
While it was a tough loss for the Bruins blowing a two goal lead, there are some positives. They picked up 6 of a possible 8 points on a 4 game west coast trip to start the season. This is going to be a very fun year. Next game will be the home opener on Saturday night 7pm vs the New Jersey Devils.
