On Black Friday, the Bruins unveiled their new third jerseys that looked awesome on the ice. What didn’t look awesome on the ice was the actual Bruins…at least not at the start. This was the B’s third game in essentially three and a half days, and all without Patrice Bergeron. It was clear early that they were missing him, but as the game went on things changed. The Rangers would start off hot as they would jump to a 2-0 lead and were all over the Bruins.
As the second period was coming to a close, the Bruins would kill a 5-on-3 penalty followed by Charlie McAvoy dropping the gloves, and these two occasions sparked the rest of the team. Sean Kuraly would get a deflection that would hit the post behind the Rangers Henrik Lundqvist, but he would knock the puck into the net when he turned to try and find it.
In the third period, the Bruins continued to pick up their game and they started to look like the team that was on a five game win streak. It appeared that all the tryptophan from Thanksgiving had worn off and the Bruins would force feed the Rangers some Black Friday Pasta.
Pastrnak increased his goal scoring lead with his 24th of the season tying the game at 2.
After killing a double-minor late in the game, the Bruins and Rangers would go to overtime, both earning a point and extending the Bruins home point streak having not lost in regulation at home yet this season. In overtime the Rangers would have a fury of chances as they controlled the puck for a majority of the first two minutes. However, the Bruins would get their chance as Pastrnak puck handled and deked through the offensive zone and swiveled a pass to a wide open David Krejci who fired a shot past the diving Lundqvist giving the Bruins the win.
The tough stretch will continue for the Bruins as they are back in action on Sunday night at 7pm as the Montreal Canadiens make their way to Boston.
