The Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens went to battle for the third time this year, first time in Boston, and it was ugly early again for the B’s. Much like how they started their last game against the Rangers, they came out very sloppy. Montreal would take advantage of the sloppy play and get on the board only about two minutes into the game. While it was deflected off Charlie McAvoy’s skates past Tuukka Rask, it was a horrible giveaway in their own defensive zone that cost the B’s the early goal. Carey Price was in net for the Canadiens and looked very sharp through the first two periods, something he was not in the last meeting between these teams that saw Boston win 8-1. It would take about 48 minutes for the Bruins to finally beat Price, when David Pastrnak fired a rocket of a shot that Price had no shot at saving.
With the momentum now swung in the Bruins direction, the Canadiens tried to mount an attack, but it was quickly ended when they would take a bad penalty in their own attacking zone leading to the NHL’s best power play getting to work. While it looked like the Bruins would be kept off the scoresheet in this man advantage, David Backes would deflect a shot past Price to give the B’s the 2-1 lead for his first of the season in his first game back from missing the last 13 games.
The Bruins would continue to pour it on now as they scored just about three minutes later as Jake DeBrusk would somehow beat Price with a bad angle shot.
Montreal now down two goals would get very aggressive and pull Carey Price with two minutes to play leaving the net empty for the extra attacker. They would then take a penalty for too many men on the ice, but the Bruins would just use the power play time to really waste time and end the game with the 3-1 win. They will next be in action on Tuesday night at 7pm when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.
