The Bruins entered the night having won six of their last seven games and leading the league with 80 points, one point ahead of Tampa. They were up against a Montreal team that finds itself seven points out of the playoff picture and they recently lost their captain Shea Weber for the next 4-6 weeks. The Bruins took advantage of the weaker blue line of the Canadiens, pretty early on. David Pastrnak who recently lost his goal scoring lead in the league would score his first goal in five games to get to 39 for the season after Brad Marchand took on three defenders and found Pasta wide open with a virtually empty net.
Early on in the second period, David Pastrnak would get back to a tie with league leaders Alex Ovechkin and Auston Matthews with his 40th of the year as Sean Kuraly found Pasta who made a nice move to fake out Carey Price, the Canadiens goalie, and make it a 2-0 game.
Almost immediately after the Bruins got a two goal lead, the Canadiens would beat Tuukka Rask on a puck that pinballed its way into the back of the net. Late in the second period, after both Montreal and Boston got roughing minors to make it four on four, the Bruins would get a chance at the rare 4-on-3 power play, where once again David Pastrnak scored, for his fourth hat trick of the year and giving him the league lead in goals with 41, making it a 3-1 game.
In the third period, the Bruins held off the Montreal attack and eventually when Carey Price got pulled, Patrice Bergeron would put one in the empty net to end the game and give the B’s a 4-1 win.
They will be back in action on Saturday at 1pm when the Detroit Red Wings are in Boston with the Bruins trying to avenge their loss on Sunday.
