29 Years Ago Today, Hulkamania Was Running Wild

On this day in 1991, WWE Hall of Famers, Hulk Hogan and the WWF Heavyweight Champion, Sgt. Slaughter faced off in the main event of Wrestlemania 7. In late 1990 Sgt. Slaughter re-joined the WWF becaming an "Iraqi sympathizer" during the Gulf War creating a stable including General Adnan and later on the returning Iron Sheik.

January of 1991 saw the Royal Rumble event where Sgt. Slaughter would defeat Ultimate Warrior to win the WWF Title, and Hulk Hogan would go on to win the Royal Rumble match for the second consecutive year. In an interview with 'Mean' Gene Okerlund, Hogan found out that to celebrate his title win, Sgt. Slaughter desecrated the American flag, resulting in the Immortal One challenging Slaughter at Wrestlemania.

Hulk Hogan would go on to win the WWF Heavyweight Championship for the 3rd time in his career and hold the title until he was defeated by The Undertaker at Survivor Series later that year.

Check out this video of the Hulkster and Sgt. Slaughter watching and commenting on that very match at Wrestlemania 7.
